Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of progressive resistance training of gluteus medius on standing balance and walking ability in children with cerebral palsy. Methods Forty-six children with spastic hemiplegic cerebral palsy(SHCP)hospitalized in the Depart-ment of Rehabilitation Medicine of our Hospital from January 2019 to June 2023 were selected and randomly assigned to an experimen-tal group and a control group, with 23 cases in each group.Children in the control group underwent conventional resistance training with a constant resistance of 0.5 kg sandbag, while those in the experimental group received progressive resistance training of gluteus medius(using elastic bands)in addition to conventional training.Participants in both groups received training for 30 minutes each time, once a day,5 days a week, for 12 consecutive weeks. The manual muscle testing(MMT)grade,Berg Balance Scale(BBS),and Gross Motor Function Measure(GMFM)scores before and after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results Be-fore treatment,no significant difference was observed in MMT,BBS,and GMFM scores between the two groups(P>0.05);after treatment, the MMT,BBS,and GMFM scores of both groups were significantly higher than those before treatment(P<0.05).Con-clusion Progressive resistance training of gluteus medius can promote standing balance and walking ability in children with cerebral palsy.
