Abstract:Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of bacillary dysentery(shigellosis)in Nanan District and provide scientific support for formulating prevention and control measures. Methods Data related to bacillary dysentery from 2013 to 2022 were obtained from the Disease Surveillance Reporting Management System.Descriptive epidemiological methods were used to analyze the epidemic characteristics of shigellosis in Nanan District, and the comparison of incidence rates was conducted using the x2 test. The change in incidence rates in different years was assessed using the x2 trend test, with P<0.05 considered statistically significant. The peak period of incidence was explored using the circular distribution analysis. Results From 2013 to 2022,a total of 3,721 cases of bacillary dysentery were reported in Nanan District, with the incidence rate decreasing from 103.92/100,000 to 5.71/100,000.The peak incidence period was from March to October. In age groups 20,25,30,45,50,55,and 60 years, the incidence rate in females was significantly higher than that in males(P<0.05);while in age groups 0,5,10,and 85 years, the incidence rate in males was significantly higher than that in females(P<0.05).No statistically significant differences were found in gender-specific incidence rates in other age groups(P>0.05).The top three occupational groups with the highest incidence rates were scattered children(18.51/100,000),housework and unemployed individuals(4.54/100,000),and retirees(4.22/100,000).From 2013 to 2018,the epidemic was mainly distributed in some streets and towns in the southwest, while from 2019 onwards,it concentrated in some streets and towns in the western region of the Nanan district. Conclusion The incidence of shigellosis in Nanan District showed a downward trend from 2013 to 2022,indicating marked effects in epidemic prevention and control. However,it is necessary to strengthen publicity tar-geting students, young children, and the elderly aged 60 and above, protect vulnerable groups, and implement food safety regulations and drinking water hygiene supervision in collective places such as schools and nursing homes,as well as training on the diagnosis crite-ria of shigellosis in medical institutions.
