Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between body mass index(BMI)and mild cognitive impairment(MCI)in community-dwelling elderly people, and further explore the relationship between BMI and memory in elderly people with MCI,so as to provide reference for preserving or improving the memory of the elderly and delaying the progression to dementia. Methods From July 2023 to August 2024,convenience sampling method was used to screen for MCI among elderly people in a community in Zhengzhou city. The chi-square test and Logistic regression method were used to analyze the influencing factors of MCI occurrence, and then Logistic regression was used to analyze the impact of significant variables in the multifactor analysis on memory impairment in elderly people with mild cognitive impairment. Results Abnormal weight was found to be an independent factor affecting the occurrence of MCI(P<0.05).Specifically,underweight was an independent risk factor for mild and significant memory impairment(P<0.05);while overweight or obesity was a risk factor for mild memory impairment(P<0.05),but not for significant memory impairment(P>0.05).Conclusions Low body weight is an independent risk factor for the progressive deterioration of memory impairment in elderly individuals with MCI.Monitoring weight changes may help identify high-risk populations in the early stages of MCI for early intervention, protecting their memory abilities, and preventing or delaying the onset of dementia.
