Application of child-friendly pathway-based health education model in the management of pediatric intravenous catheters

Abstract:Objective To explore the effectiveness of child-friendly pathway-based health education model in the management of pediatric intravenous(PIV).Methods The pediatric patients in Jiuquan People's Hospital requiring PIV catheterization in a general pediatric ward were selected by convenience sampling.From January to June 2024,397 pediatric patients received routine health education and were assigned to the control group.From July to December 2024,403 pediatric patients received child-friendly pathway-based health education intervention and were assigned to the study group.The quality of health education,adverse emotions,indwelling needle puncture situation and complication incidence,and caregiver satisfaction were compared between the two groups.Results The health education quality score and the caregivers'satisfaction were higher in the study group than those in the control group.The depression self-rating scale for childhood(DSRSC)and the screen for child anxiety related emotional disorders(SCARED)scores were lower and the use of PIV were significantly improved in the study group than those in the control group,and the incidence of complications was lower in the study group than that in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusions The application of child-friendly pathway-based health education in the management of PIV can improve the quality of health education for children,alleviate negative emotions,and reduce the occurrence of complications,and improve caregivers'satisfaction.
