Analysis of factors influencing caregiver burden of home care for Rugao's rural elderly with dementia under the long term care insurance policy

Abstract：Objective To understand the level of care burden and influencing factors of the main caregivers of elderly people with dementia in rural areas under the long-term care insurance system.Methods From July 2023 to August 2023,107 caregivers of elderly people with dementia who provided home care in the Rugao area of Jiangsu Province were selected by convenient sampling method.Data were collected using a self-designed caregiver basic information form,the Zarit Caregiver Burden Interview(ZBI),and the activities of daily living(ADL)scale.Results The score of ZBI was(51.64±15.86),indicating a moderately high level.Multiple linear regression analysis result showed that higher levels of disability,lower income of the disabled elderly,and longer duration of dementia were associated with higher scores on the caregiver burden scale,indicating a heavier caregiving burden.the higher the score of the caregiver burden scale and the heavier the burden(P＜0.05).Conclusions After the implementation of the"long-term care insurance",the burden on caregivers of elderly people with dementia has improved,but the care task remains arduous.Relevant departments can improve the well-being of caregivers by actively building a care network for elderly people with dementia in rural areas and ensuring the needs of low-income families of elderly people with dementia.
