Abstract:Objective To explore the effects of exercise intervention on body composition and physical function in patients with sarcopenic obesity. Methods A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed,the Cochrane Library,Embase,Web of Science,CINAHL,CNKI,Wanfang, and VIP databases for randomized controlled trials investigating the effects of exercise intervention on sarcopenic obesity from the inception of the databases to July 31,2023.Two researchers independently conducted the literature screening, data extracted, and methodological quality evaluations. Results A total of seven randomized controlled trials involving 482 patients were included.Meta-analysis results showed that exercise intervention could significantly reduce body weight, body fat percentage, body fat mass, visceral fat area, and skeletal muscle mass(P<0.05).Additionally,exercise intervention was found to improve knee muscle strength, back muscle strength, grip strength, and gait speed level(P<0.05).Conclusions Existing evidence suggests that exercise intervention could effectively improve body composition and physical function in elderly patients with sarcopenic obesity. However, the methodological quality of relevant exercise intervention studies was moderate. Therefore, further studies would be needed to develop standardized exercise programs for patients with sarcopenic obesity.
