Abstract:Objective To evaluate the intervention effects of oral health management based on self-efficacy theory system on patients with enamel demineralization during orthodontic treatment. Methods 120 patients with enamel demineralization during orthodontic treatment from March to September 2022 were selected by the convenient sampling method. They were randomly divided into the experimental group(n=60)and the control group(n=60)though convenience sampling. The control group received the routine care, while the experimental group received the oral health management based on self-efficacy theory system. The self-efficacy,the self-care ability of oral health and the index of enamel demineralization(EDI)were compared between the two groups at the baseline(T0),six months of experimental intervention(T1),and 12 months of experimental intervention(T2).Results Repeated measures analysis of variance showed that the scores of the health behavior self-efficacy and the oral health self-care ability of patients of the experimental group at different times were higher than those before intervention and the control group(P<0.05).At T2,the enamel demineralization index of the experimental group was(0.16±0.09),which was significantly lower than that of the control group(0.48±0.28)(P<0.05).Conclusions The oral health management based on self-efficacy theory system could improve the self-efficacy and the oral health self-care ability, reduce the rate of enamel demineralization, and effectively improve oral health of orthodontic patients with enamel demineralization.
