Abstract:Temporomandibular disorders(TMD)are common in dentistry, with complex etiologies and diverse clinical manifestations.Imaging techniques allow visualization and precise quantification of temporomandibular joint(TMJ)structures.MRI can reveal soft tissue abnormalities by analyzing disc morphology, degree of displacement, joint effusion, and lateral pterygoid muscle attachment patterns;while CT provides quantitative parameters of bony structures such as condylar morphology, size, and position. This review summarizes the associations between CT and MRI structural features of the TMJ with TMD severity and prognosis, aiming to provide a theoretical basis for precision diagnosis and treatment of TMD.
