Abstract:Bone marrow adipose tissue increasing, microvessel reduction, and microcirculatory disturbance are im-portant factors of the genesis and progression of osteoporosis. However, there are still different opinions on the correlation be-tween extramedullary adipose tissue and osteoporosis. The distribution of extramedullary adipose tissue is especially impor-tant in the interaction between adipose tissue and bone. Adipose tissue can secrete various adipokines (leptin, adiponectin, ghrelin, etc.) and inflammatory mediators. Different parts of adipose tissue have different effects on bone. This paper mainly introduces the imaging methods for measuring different parts of adipose tissue, the correlation between adipose tissue and os-teoporosis and underlying mechanism.
