Abstract:Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurodegenerative disease that is characterized by multifocal demyelinating lesions mainly in white matters of central nervous system and repeated attack with alternated remission and relapsing. Clini-cal manifestations of MS are quite unspecific and conventional MRI has its limitation in diagnosis of MS. While, many new MRI techniques may help to detect minor/cortical lesions, inflammation of leptomeninges, and even changes of normal-ap-pearing brain parenchyma, which may contribute significantly in revealing changes of different pathological features during disease courses, predicting neuro-functions and behavioral changes. This paper summarizes the progresses in application of double inversion-recovery (DIR) imaging, phase difference-enhanced imaging (PADRE), contrast enhanced fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (CE-FLAIR) imaging, magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), and func-tional MRI techniques in MS.
