Abstract:Magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound surgery (MRgFUS) is an non-invasive imaging tool, which enables three-dimensional imaging and real-time monitoring temperature during tumor ablation using MR function soft-ware. It has been utilized in the treatment of cancer in prostate, kidney, and liver. However, high acoustic energy could cause damage to normal surrounding tissues in the process of ultrasound. Nanosized theranostic SPIO nanoplatform can im-prove tumor-ablative efficacy of MRgFUS system and reduce injury to the normal tissue surrounding the tumor. This article aimed at making an evaluation and overview concerning clinical application and synergistic effect of SPIO in MRgFUS.
