Abstract:Metabolomics is an emerging discipline. It uses analytical chemistry (magnetic resonance and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry) to study the generated metabolic change of pathophysiology by the stimulation of organism. Metabonomics employs multivariable statistical analysis method to assess the changes in endogenous metabolites and finally achieves the disease diagnosis, neoplasm staging, guiding treatment and prognosis evaluation from the metabolism point of view. Esophageal cancer, a common malignant tumor of digestive tract, is difficult to diagnose at early stage with existing methods at present. The metabonomics and related technology have been intensively used in the study of esophageal cancer and have potential to be a novel tool in diagnosing and evaluating the treatment effect of esophageal cancer. In the article we reviewed the research progress of metabonomics and its related technologies about esophageal cancer.
