Abstract:Posterior circulation ischemia (PCI) is also called vertebrobasilar ischemia. Its incidence is much lower than that of anterior circulation ischemia (ACI), but the mortality rate was significantly higher than that of ACI. PCI is a serious threat to human health and attracts scientists’ attention. Early diagnosis and treatment is the key to improve the prognosis of PCI. With the application of various kinds of functional MRI technologies, we can not only demonstrate the morphology and anatomy of posterior circulation structure, but can also non-invasively observe cerebral blood flow, metabolism, and function in vivo. Functional MRI techniques are very helpful in early diagnosis and evaluation of treatment effect. In this article we reviewed the application of various functional MRI techniques in PCI.
