Abstract:Pelvic floor dysfunction including a series diseases such as pelvic organ prolapse, urinary and fecal dysfunction caused by weakness of pelvic supporting system. Levator ani muscle consists of the main component of pelvic supporting system. Static magnetic resonance imaging permits detailed assessment of anatomic structures owing to its high soft tissue resolution. Dynamic magnetic resonance imaging permits the observation of movement and functional evaluation of levator ani muscle. These provide objectively evidence for the complementary evaluation. In this article we reviewed the application and research progress of static and dynamic magnetic resonance imaging in evaluation of levator ani muscle for patients with pelvic floor dysfunction.
