Abstract:Intraplaque hemorrhage (IPH) in carotid is one of the important risk factors for ischemic stroke. It can lead to the growth and rupture of plaque. The diagnostic methods for IPH are mainly magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and ultrasound. With the noninvasive, high spatial resolution and multi-contrast characters, high-resolution MRI is the most effective method in detecting IPH. It included 2D and 3D sequences. The recently developed 3D sequences achieve higher spatial resolution, specificity and sensitivity. This review highlights the major developments of high-resolution MRI in carotid plaque hemorrhage.
