Abstract:A focus of neuroimaging and cognitive neuroscience is the so-called default mode network (DMN) which comprises cortical midline structure as well as lateral areas. The activity of this system is relatively active during rest and associated with cognition and neuropsychiatric disorders. This review describes its functional anatomy, putative functions, and the alterations of the DMN architecture in neuropsychiatric disorders. The scientific examination of DMN was discussed. We focused on research progress in the dementia of Alzheimer, schizophrenia, and depression.
