Exosome and Growth & Development of Germ Cells

Abstract:The growth and development of both oocyte and sperm are regulated by cytokines in the microenvironment. The blood-follicular barrier encompasses the follicle, as same as the blood-testis barrier in the testes. It is not very clear how to exchange the signal and nutrient between the microenvironment of germ cells and the body. Exosome as a membrane vesicle in body fluids is involved in a series of physiological and pathological activities, such as signal transduction and exchange of materials between cells. Exosome also can participate in immune tolerance and the pathogenesis of tumor. It was lately found that exosome played an important role in the follicle and testis. Exosome from the ovary is related to follicular development, while exosome in seminal plasma to the in vitro maintainability of sperm function. The study on exosome is a new field in reproductive medicine.
