Abstract:Objective:To investigate the effect of infertility background on the obstetric and perinatal outcomes. Methods:A total of 1 000 delivery women were investigated by a self-designed questionary. Those women who conceived over one year, had normal sex life, and had not received any assisted reproductive technology (ART) were defined as infertility (the infertility group, n=136). Those women who had one baby under one year of conceive, and matched with the infertility group in singleton, age, parity and delivery method were assigned as the control group (n=272). The ART group included 114 women who received IVF/ICSI treatment and delivered in our hospital at the same period. Obstetric and perinatal outcomes were compared among these groups. Results:The incidence of low birth weight in the infertility group was significantly higher than that in the control group (11.03%vs. 5.15%, P<0.05). There were no significant differences of perinatal outcomes between the ART group and the control group, the infertility group (P>0.05). There were no significant differences of obstetric outcomes in three groups(P>0.05). Conclusions:The infertility background is a risk factor of the increased rate of low birth weight of newborns.
