Abstract:Epithelial ovarian cancer is a cancer of older women. Nealy half (45%) of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer would be older than 64 years old. This ratio is expected to increase in the coming decades for the aging population and improving life-expectancy. But most of the older women with ovarian cancer did not receive standard treatment because of the complication and toxic and adverse effects, which leaded to the worse survival rate. The majority of elderly patients are able to tolerate the standard care for ovarian cancer including initial surgical cytoreduction followed by platinum and taxane chemotherapy. To offer optimal radical management, pretreatment assessment is necessary. Large prospective clinical trials for elderly patients with ovarian cancer could offer justified evidence weather they could be benefited from the treatment.
