Abstract:The Eagle effect refers to the phenomenon where some bacteria exhibit enhanced proliferation, rather than inhibition, under high concentrations of antibiotics. This finding challenges the traditional linear perception of the relationship between antibiotic dosage and bacteriostatic efficacy, revealing a complex non-linear correlation between antimicrobial concentration and microbial inhibition. The Eagle effect is crucial for a deeper understanding of bacterial resistance mechanisms and their transmission pathways, and it also highlights the diversity of bacterial responses to antibiotics and their regulation by environmental factors.Although this phenomenon has been recognized for decades, relevant research remains relatively limited. This review systematically summarizes the biological basis, clinical implications, and detection technologies associated with the Eagle effect, aiming to provide insights for optimizing antibiotic usage strategies and addressing the increasingly serious challenge of antimicrobial resistance.
