Abstract:Objective:To study the prevalence, genesis, distribution pattern, characteristics and prevention of stasis dermatitis (SD)in soldiers of Beijing Garrison. Methods:Six hundred and seventy-six male soldiers from Beijing Garrison, age from 18 to 30 years old,and having joined the army for 1 to 11 years, were involved. A questionnaire, physical examination, local microcirculation examination of skin of dorsum of foot,ultrasonograph-ic examination of lower extremity were carried out. Results:The incidence of SD in this group of soldiers was 2.3 7%,while the incidence was 6.3 6% in soldiers who were guardsmen of the military institutions. Among the soldiers who joined the army for 2-5 years,3.48% of them suffered SD. The incidence reached 6.57% in sol-diers whose height was over 180 cm.The incidence of varicose veins of lower extremity was 5.62% (38 cases), and the age of all the 38 patients was in the range of 18 to 24 years old. Conclusions:The incidence of varicose veins of lower extremity and stasis dermatitis in soldiers is higher than that of the general population. New thera-pies and new preventive methods for stasis dermatitis is lacking. The incidence is related to the rank of institution where the servicemen are deployed, duration of service, and body height.
