Abstract:[Objective]This paper is to examine the feasibility of using micro glass beads as micro-irrigation filter. [Method]We experimentally studied the impact of different initial filtration rates and sediment concentrations on instant effluent flow rate, pressure drop between the inlet and outlet of the filter, and turbidity of the effluent.[Result]When the initial filtration velocity was 0.015 m/s, an increase in sewage concentration had a significant effect on effluent turbidity. When the filtering speeds were 0.020 m/s, 0.025 m/s and 0.030 m/s, an increase in sewage concentration had a noticeable effect on the effluent turbidity in the early stage. Under the same sewage concentration, an increase in initial filtration velocity increased the instant effluent flow rate in a filtration cycle, while under the same initial filtering velocity, an increase in sewage concentration increased the amount of effluent flow rate in one filtration cycle. Under the same filtration velocity, the pressure drop between the inlet and outlet of the filter increased with the sewage concentration. With the filtration flow rate increasing, the pressure drop across the filter decreased as seepage concentration decreased.[Conclusion]The glass beads purified water mainly by intercepting solid particles in the early stage. With the accumulation of the particles in the filter, the effluent turbidity, instant flow rate of the effluent, and the pressure drop across the filter were stabilized, after which the filter purified the water mainly by interception and adsorption.
