Abstract:This paper investigated the impact of waterlogging occurring at different growth stages on growth and yield of winter wheat. The experiment was conducted in lysimeters using Xinyuan 985 variety as the model plant. The waterlogging was assumed to happen at the booting or the filling stage respectively, lasting from one to sev-en days. The results showed that the occurrence of waterlogging resulted in a reduction in chlorophyll content and grain filling rate, thereby yield loss, and that the reduction increased with the duration of the waterlogging. Com-pared with the CK, waterlogging occurring at the booting stage and lasting for seven days led to a decrease in chlorophyll and filling rate by 16.64%and 95.02%respectively, yield loss and 1000-grain weight by 29.6%and 6.15%respectively. Waterlogging at filling stage lasing for seven days gave rise to a yield loss by 25.9%, com-pared with the CK. To reduce yield loss due to waterlogging, a functional drainage system is thus essential to avoid waterlogging damage, especially waterlogging at the booting stage.
