Effect of NaCl Stress on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Haloxylon Ammodendron
Abstract:An experiment was conducted to determine the effect of NaCl stress on seed germination and seedling growth of Haloxylon ammodendron by analyzing seed germination rate, bud and radicle length, fresh weight of seedlings and cell membrane permeability. The NaCl stresses consisted of 0(CK),2,4,6,8,12,16,20,24,30,36 g/L.The results obtained showed that relative germination rates of Haloxylon ammodendron seeds were all higher than 90% when salt stress was lower than 8 g/L;the relative germination rate decreased significantly when salt stress exceeded 8 g/L,and there was a negative correlation between these two variables.Seeds could not be sprouted completely when salt stress reached 30 g/L.Ideal,critical and maximum threshold value of salt stress for seed germination of Haloxylon ammodendron in this research were 10.4,13.7 and 17.0 g/L,respectively.With salt stress becoming stronger, relative germination potential decreased gradually, and the length of both bud and radicle became smaller;the fresh weight of seedlings decreased, and cell membrane permeability of seedlings was enhanced.
