Abstract:Characteristics of the layered soil infiltration and drainage under the condition of furrow irriga-tion were investigated using a soil tank experiment. The results show that the layered soil properties and its distribution shape had impact on the processes of infiltration and drainage of the soil water, and the in-terlayer interface impeded the spread of the wetting front. Furthermore, horizontal distribution of the lay-er soil in the tank is different. Compared to the south side, the piezometric head have slower change, drained strength is smaller, and water-holding capacity is bigger in the soil of the north side as the compac-ted soil. Under the experimental conditions, the stable drained strength of the north side is 0. 021 L/min, which of the south side is 0. 030 L/min.
