Abstract:As a key organ of the urinary system, the kidney is involved in various diseases, including renal tumors, kidney stones, acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, and nephritis, all of which seriously threaten human health.Globally, the incidence of kidney diseases is continuously rising, posing significant challenges to the medical system.Pyrroloquinoline quinone(PQQ)is a novel redox enzyme cofactor that has attracted considerable attention due to its prominent activities in antioxidation,anti-inflammation,and mitochondrial protection. In recent years, its role in kidney diseases has gradually become a research focus. This article first elaborates on the biological functions of PQQ,then explores its mechanisms of action and safety characteristics, and finally reviews the research progress of PQQ in acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, diabetic kidney disease, renal calcium oxalate stones, and other kidney diseases, and prospects its application potential as a therapeutic target for kidney diseases.
