Abstract:Depression is a common mental disorder.Immune imbalance in the peripheral immune system, central nervous system, and gastrointestinal system, and the resulting immune inflammatory response, are significant factors in the pathogenesis of depression. These mechanisms collectively influence the pathological processes of depression through the body's immune regulatory network.Traditional antidepressants possess immunomodulatory functions, while polypeptide drugs and probiotics exert therapeutic potential by targeting immune-neural regulation. This article reviews the relationship between immune imbalance in the peripheral immune system, central nervous system, and gastrointestinal system and the occurrence and development of depression,as well as research progress on immunomodulatory therapy for depression, aiming to explore the role of immune function imbalance in the pathogenesis of depression and to provide references for the immunomodulatory treatment of depression.
