Abstract:The human gut microbiota constitutes a vast and complex microbial community.Research indicates that gut microbiota can directly or indirectly participate in the immunomodulation of distal organs through pathways such as its derived metabolites.Furthermore, dysbiosis of gut microbiota, particularly disturbances in its composition, functionality, and structure,is closely associated with the pathogenesis, progression, and treatment of lung diseases. In this review,we delve into the mechanisms by which gut microbiota and its metabolites influence various lung diseases, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary fibrosis,tuberculosis,COVID-19,influenza and lung cancer. We also summarize recent advances in emerging therapies based on gut microbiota and its metabolites, thereby providing novel perspectives for targeting gut microbiota in the treatment of lung diseases.
