Abstract:Chikungunya fever is an acute mosquito-borne infectious disease caused by the Chikungunya virus(CHIKV),characterized by symptoms such as fever, arthralgia, and rash. Some patients may develop chronic joint pain.CHIKV can be divided into three main genotypes:West African,East/Central/South African, and Asian.Continued mutation during transmission affects the virus's pathogenicity and transmissibility.Currently, significant progress has been made in developing CHIKV vaccines. The live-attenuated vaccine IXCHIQ and the virus-like particle vaccine VIMKUNYA have been approved, and a variety of candidate vaccines such as inactivated vaccines, viral vector vaccines, and nucleic acid vaccines, are in clinical trials. This article reviews the viral characteristics, genetic evolution, and pathogenic mechanisms of CHIKV,as well as the progress of clinical research on vaccines,to provide a reference for future studies on its pathogenesis and vaccine development.
