The emerging roles of UFMylation in the functional regulation of immune homeostasis
ZHOU Jun-zhi
Abstract:Post-translational modification is a necessary pathway for cellular functional proteins and ultimately regulates almost all aspects of life. The UFMylation system is a newly identified ubiquitin-like modifier with important biological functions, but its biological significance is still unclear. The field has recently witnessed a large number of studies showing that the UFMylation system directly or indirectly regulates tumor microenvironment via regulating multiple immune processes in tumor microenvironment. The review summarized important advances in how the UFM1 system responds to endogenous and exogenous stress and maintains immune homeostasis under certain physiological or pathological conditions, providing new insights into the regulation and function of the UFMylation system and its application in the treatment of human diseases.
