Diagnosis and surgical treatment of 34 patients with primary cardiac neoplasm
Abstract:Objective:To evaluate the value of echocatdiogram in diagnosing primary cardiac neoplasm and the efficacy of surgical intervention. Methods:All the 34 patients after being diagnosed by means of two-dimensional echocardiography(ECG)had their tumors removed surgically on this conditions of hypothermia and extracorporal circulation, and one of them also had his femoral artery incised simultancously for embolectomy of tumor tissue. Results:Preoperative examination showed that 32 cases were carrying pathologic heart murmurs, and 24 had abnormal ECK,while 10 had normal ECK.In all 34 cases the characteristic features of the image displayed on ECG were in keeping with the appearance of the tumor seen at the time of operation, and result of operation in correspondence with echocardiogram is 100 per cent.32 cases were cured and discharged without recurence during follow-up examination.2 cases died of low cardiac output syndrome postoperatively. Conclusion:The ECG is most efficient in diagnosing primary cardiac neoplasms. One the diagnosis has been established surgical operation should be done as soon as possible and the result is exccllent.
