Abstract:Objective To analyze the spectrum and epidemiological characteristics of glomerular diseases diag-nosed by renal biopsy in parts of Inner Mongolia over the past 20 years. Methods Clinical and pathological data of pa-tients who underwent renal biopsy in the Department of Nephrology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Baotou Medical Col-lege,between January 2004 and December 2023 were retrospectively reviewed. The clinical epidemiological features, pathological classifications, and incidence patterns were analyzed. Results A total of 2 623 renal biopsy cases were in-cluded,with 1 404(53.53%)males and 1 219(46.47%)females,and a mean age of(44.80±15.69)years.Com-pared with 2004-2013,the mean age of biopsy patients increased significantly in the past decade(P<0.001).The pro-portion of IgA nephropathy(IgAN)decreased significantly over time(P<0.05),while membranous nephropathy(MN)increased significantly(P<0.05),replacing IgAN as the most common primary glomerular disease since 2014.Diabetic nephropathy(DN)showed the largest increase among secondary glomerular diseases(P<0.05).The proportion of mid-dle-aged and elderly patients increased significantly in cases of MN,IgAN,minimal change disease(MCD),focal seg-mental glomerulosclerosis(FSGS),and Henoch-Schönlein purpura nephritis(HSPN)compared with a decade ago(all P<0.05).Conclusion Over the past 20 years, the spectrum and epidemiology of glomerular diseases in Inner Mongolia have changed significantly. The average age of patients undergoing renal biopsy has increased, with a higher proportion of middle-aged and elderly patients.MN has become the most common primary glomerular disease in this center.
