Abstract:China's elderly population is rapidly increasing, and with advancing age,the prevalence of sarcopenia is significantly rising.Nutritional intervention, through supplementation of essential nutrients,is one of the key strategies in the prevention and treatment of sarcopenia.Numerous studies have shown that increasing protein intake can improve muscle mass, strength, and function in older adults. However, there remains controversy regarding the optimal type and amount of protein supplementation, with concerns about the potential adverse effects of excessive protein intake.Addition-ally,β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate(HMB),a metabolite of leucine, can promote muscle protein synthesis and inhibit its breakdown, thereby significantly enhancing muscle mass in the elderly. Moreover, dysbiosis of the gut microbiota may lead to muscle aging and loss, playing a role in the pathophysiology of sarcopenia.Certain probiotics, particularly Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus, may influence the gut-muscle axis and regulate muscle mass. Therefore, modulation of the gut microbiome presents a promising target for the prevention and treatment of sarcopenia.
