Clinical efficacy of Feng's Endometriosis Formula combined with high-intensity focused ultrasound in the treat-ment of adenomyosis

Abstract：Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of Feng's Endometriosis Formula(FEF)combined with high-intensity focused ultrasound(HIFU)in the treatment of adenomyosis.Methods A total of 70 patients diagnosed with adenomyosis at Guangdong Women and Children Hospital from May 2018 to November 2023 were included.Changes in uterine size,lesion volume,dysmenorrhea,menstrual blood loss,and serum carbohydrate antigen 125(CA125)levels were assessed before and at 1,3,and 6 months after treatment with either HIFU alone or HIFU combined with FEF.MRI was used to observe lesion changes following FEF treatment.The therapeutic efficacy of the combination regimen was ana-lyzed.Results MRI imaging showed reductions in uterine and lesion volumes after 3 months of FEF treatment.At 6 months,the combination therapy resulted in significantly greater reductions in uterine size 56.86(42.86,61.83)％and lesion volume 82.34(70.17,87.61)％compared to HIFU alone[41.15(18.01,54.91)％and 57.08(24.96,78.87)％,respectively,P＜0.05].No significant differences were observed between the 1-and 3-month time points.The necrotic lesion volume after 6 months of combination therapy showed a significant reduction 79.98(66.91,89.95)％compared to HIFU alone 55.58(22.14,75.98)％.CA125 levels decreased significantly after both HIFU and combination therapy,but normalization rates were higher with FEF at 1 month(RR=4,95％CI:1.235-12.955,P＜0.01)and 3 months(RR=2.714,95％CI:1.309-5.627,P＜0.01).Dysmenorrhea and menstrual blood loss scores were signifi-cantly reduced post-treatment in both groups.The FEF group had significantly higher dysmenorrhea relief rates at 1 month(RR=3.333,95％CI:1.002-11.091,P＜0.05),3 months(RR=4,95％CI:2.02-7.919,P＜0.001),and 6 months(RR=2.818,95％CI:1.703-4.663,P＜0.001),while improvements in menstrual blood volume were similar between the two groups.Conclusion Compared with HIFU alone,Feng's Endometriosis Formula provides superi-or relief of dysmenorrhea,reduction of CA125 levels,and long-term suppression of adenomyosis lesion growth.Howev-er,both approaches show similar efficacy in reducing menstrual blood loss.
