Abstract:Objective To analyze the infection characteristics and antibiotic sensitivity of mycoplasma pneumoni-ae(MP)in pediatric patients, providing a basis for the prevention and clinical treatment of MP infections. Methods A total of 800 children with lower respiratory tract infections admitted to Dongguan Songshan Lake Donghua Hospital from September 2022 to February 2024 were enrolled in the study.MP pneumonia(MPP)cases were identified using MP-specific IgM antibody detection. Results Among the 800 patients,195(24.38%)tested positive for MP,including 92 cases of pure MPP and 103 cases with co-infections(viral or bacterial).Significant differences in MP positivity were ob-served across different age groups and seasons(x2=32.941 and 12.997,respectively),with the highest incidence in children aged 6 to ≤14 years and during autumn and winter. The main clinical manifestations in MPP patients were cough(91.30%,84 cases),fever(73.91%,68 cases),and expectoration(32.61%,30 cases).Additionally,24 cases(26.09%)developed extrapulmonary complications,52.17%(48 cases)exhibited both dry and moist rales,11.96%(11 cases)presented with atelectasis, and 8.70%(8 cases)had pleural effusion.Among 92 throat swab specimens,MP was cultured in 60 cases(65.22%).Antibiotic sensitivity testing on these 60 MP strains showed high sensitivity to clin-damycin(95.00%),lower sensitivity to azithromycin(73.33%)and roxithromycin(78.33%),and the lowest sensitiv-ity to erythromycin(56.67%).Conclusion MP infection in children is influenced by age and seasonal factors, with cough and fever being the predominant symptoms.Severe cases may develop both pulmonary and extrapulmonary complica-tions.Rapid culture and antibiotic sensitivity testing of throat swabs are critical for guiding appropriate antimicrobial thera-py in clinical practice.
