Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of empowerment education based on the protection motivation theory(PMT)in preventing axillary web syndrome(AWS)in postoperative breast cancer patients. Methods A total of 96 breast cancer patients undergoing surgery were randomly divided into two groups:an experimental group(n=48)re-ceiving PMT-based empowerment education and a control group(n=48)receiving standard postoperative health educa-tion.The incidence of AWS,upper limb function, and cancer self-management efficacy were assessed at 1,3,and 6 months post-surgery.Results The incidence of AWS in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control group at all postoperative time points(P<0.05).The experimental group also showed better upper limb function and higher cancer self-management efficacy scores compared to the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).Conclusion Empowerment education based on PMT effectively reduces the incidence of AWS in postopera-tive breast cancer patients, promotes upper limb functional recovery, and enhances self-management efficacy.
