Application of probiotic combined with Orem self-care oriented therapy in colon cancer patients with colostomy

Abstract：Objective To investigate the influence of probiotics combined with Orem self-care oriented therapy on patients undergoing colostomy after colon cancer surgery.Methods One hundred patients undergoing colostomy due to colon cancer were selected as the research subjects and were randomly divided into control group(n=50)and observa-tion group(n=50)using a random number table.The control group received routine nursing interventions after colosto-my,while the observation group received probiotics combined with Orem self-care oriented therapy on the basis of the control group.The post-intervention outcomes,complications within one month after surgery,changes in serum albumin(ALB),prealbumin(PA),hemoglobin(Hb),and the level of post-traumatic growth before and after the intervention were compared to evaluate the intervention's effectiveness.Results After the intervention,the observation group had sig-nificantly lower times for the first anal gas discharge,defecation,time to get out of bed,and length of hospital stay com-pared to the control group,with all differences being statistically significant(all P＜0.05).The total incidence of compli-cations within one month after surgery in the observation group was lower than that in the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P＜0.05).After the intervention,the serum levels of ALB,PA,and Hb in both groups were higher than before the intervention,and the observation group was higher than the control group,with statistically signifi-cant differences(all P＜0.05).After the intervention,the level of post-traumatic growth in the observation group was higher than that in the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P＜0.05).Conclusion Probiotics combined with Orem self-care oriented therapy can promote the recovery process of patients after colon cancer colostomy,reduce the incidence of postoperative complications,improve postoperative nutritional status,and enhance post-traumatic growth levels.
