Abstract:Objective To evaluate the diagnostic values of disulfide, thiol, disulfide/thiol radio and ADMA in acute appendicitis (AA). Methods The study included 98 people with AA (Group AA) hospitalized in the department of pediatrics of the first affiliated hospital of Xinxiang Medical University. And 82 healthy volunteers were randomly selected in our hospital during the same period were selected as control group. The peripheral venous blood was collected at admission to detect the concentration of thiol, disulfide, ADMA and CRP.Results There was no significant difference in age or sex between the two groups. The concentration of serum thiol in Group AA was significantly lower than that in the Group Control. But the concentrations of serum CRP, disulfide and ADMA, and thiol/disulfide radio were significantly higher in Group AA than those in the Group Control. The concentrations of serum thiol and disulfide, and thiol/disulfide radio were not significantly different between nonperforated and perforated AA patients. The concentrations of serum CRP and ADMA in perforated AA patients were significantly higher than those in nonperforated AA patients. Conclusion The detection of serum thiol concentration, disulfide concentration, disulfide/thiol radio and ADMA concentration provides clinical value for diagnosis of AA; especially the concentration of ADMA, which can be used for diagnosis of perforation AA.
