Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of N acetyl cysteine on the levels of nuclear factor -kappa B (NF-κB) and hypoxia inducible factor -1 alpha (HIF-1α) in peripheral blood lymphocytes of OSAHS patients .Meth-ods Forty patients with OSAHS from the People′s Hospital of Guizhou province were randomly selected based on the polysomnography (PSG) with AHI >=5/h; and 20 participants with AHI<5/h were included as normal group .OSAHS patients were divided into OSAHS group (20 cases) and OSAHS+NAC intervention group (20 cases). The patients in OSAHS+NAC intervention group was treated with NAC 600 mg orally 2 times a day for 28 days.Real-time PCR and Western blot methods were used to detect the levels of NF -κB and HIF-1αmRNA and protein in peripheral blood lym-phocytes.Results The levels of NF-κB and HIF-1αmRNA in the peripheral blood lymphocytes of the OSAHS group were significantly higher than those of the normal group (P<0.05).The levels of NF-κB and HIF-1αmRNA and pro-tein in the peripheral blood lymphocytes on the 28th day in OSAHS+NAC intervention group were significantly lower than those before treatment (P<0.05).Conclusion NAC can downregulate the expression of NF -κB and HIF-1αin pa-tients with OSAHS.
