Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of galectin -4 (Gal-4) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).Methods A hundred cases of NSCLC patients were selected .The experimental group was consisted with 100 cases cancer tissue by surgical resection , and control group comes from the corresponding adjacent normal lung tissues. The expression of Gal -4 in both groups was examined by the immunohistochemical staining method . The correlations between the expression of Gal -4 and clinicopathological features , such as gender , age, smoking, histo-logical type, tumor size, lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis were analyzed .Results The positive expression rate of Gal-4 in cancer tissue (48.00%) was significantly higher than that in adjacent normal lung tissue (0.00%) (P<0.05).The positive expression rate of Gal -4 in lung adenocarcinoma (84.44%) was significantly higher than that in lung squamous cell carcinoma (22.22%) and large cell lung cancer (0.00%).The positive expression rate of Gal -4 with lymph node metastasis (61.22%) was significantly higher than that without lymph node metastasis (35.29%) in NSCLC (P<0.05).The expression of Gal -4 was significantly correlated with the lymph node metastasis in lung adeno-carcinoma (P<0.05), but not in lung squamous cell carcinoma (P>0.05).The expression of Gal -4 is not correlated with the gender, age, smoking, tumor size and distant metastasis (P>0.05).Conclusion Gal-4 has the highest ex-pression rate in lung adenocarcinoma of NSCLC and has important clinical significance in predicting lymph node metastasis in lung adenocarcinoma .
