Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlation between neonatal birth weight (BW) and fetal fractional limb volumes, including fractional thigh volume (TVol) and fractional arm volume (AVol) obtained by three dimensional ultrasound before labor. Methods Totally 563 fetal TVol and AVol data sets from normal singleton pregnant women were collected by three dimensional ultrasonography before delivery. TVol and AVol values were calculated through off - line analysis by 4D View software. The reproducibility and consistency of these measurements were examined. Pearson correlation analysis was used to find out the correlations between TVol and BW, AVol and BW. Results TVol and AVol measurements had a high consistency (Bland - Altman difference analysis showed an average percentage difference of less than 50%) and good confidence (intra - group correlation coefficients were higher than 0.90). The were significant correlations between BW and TVol, BW and AVol (rTVol=0.87 and rAVol=0.86, P<0.01). The regression equation of TVol and BW before labor was BWTVol=40.77 × TVol + 1199.92 (R2TVol=0.77). The regression equation of AVol and BW before labor was BWAVol=80.59 × AVol + 1431.27 (R2AVol=0.76). Conclusion Either TVol or AVol has strong positive correlation with BW, which may applied in birth weight prediction in clinical practice.
