Clinicopathological analysis of 845 intracranial meningiomas in a single institute

Abstract:Objective To review clinical and pathological data of intracranial meningioma surgically treated at Sun Yat-Sen University Cancer Center during the last 15 years.Methods Meningioma patients received surgery at Sun Yat-Sen University Cancer Center from December 2000 to December 2015 were included , and clinicopathological features and treatment outcomes were retrospectively analyzed .Univariate and multivariate analysis were used to determine risk fac-tors of progression free survivor with Kaplan -Meier survival analysis and Cox hazard regression model by log -rank.Re-sults There were 845 meningioma cases were enrolled , including 235 male and 610 female patient.The mean age of the patients was 49.96 ±12.17 years.The median follow-up time was 5.00 months (range, 1-240 months).There were 57 cases recurred postoperatively , with the incidence in WHO Ⅰ,ⅡandⅢgrade meningioma were 4.9%, 17.1%and 22.6%, respectively.In multivariate analysis, WHO grade and gender were significantly associated with meningioma re-currence .Conclusion WHO grade Ⅱ/Ⅲmeningioma was prone to recur postoperatively .Patients in high risk of recur-rence should be followed -up more intensively .
