Abstract:Objective To investigate the nutritional status of patients with advanced gastrointestinal cancers receiving hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC).Methods The nutritional status were preliminarily assessed through retrospectively analyzing of the changes of serum albumin (Alb), serum total protein (TP) and serum transferring (TFR) in 45 cases of advanced gastrointestinal cancers during peri-HIPEC period. Results The incidences of low Alb, low TP and low TFR were 77.78%, 48.89% and 36.67%, respectively, on admission. After finishing the HIPEC treatments, the concentrations of Alb, TP and TFR were all lower than those at baselines (P<0.01).With respect to the baselines, the levels of Alb, TP and TFR all showed downward trends after the first HIPEC treatment;besides, the levels of Alb and TP remained relatively stable, and the level of TFR was on a decline tendency generally in the remaining days of the post-HIPEC period. Conclusion The incidences of hypoprotein malnutrition are relatively high in patients with advanced gastrointestinal cancers;meanwhile, the patients are at higher risk for hypoprotein malnutrition after HIPEC.
