Abstract:Objective To discuss the expression and clinic significance of Merlin in tongue squamous cell carci noma (TSCC).Methods The expression of Merlin in 45 cases of TSCC tissues and 16 cases of normal tongue mucosa were measured by immunohistochemistry. The correlation between Merlin expression and clinicopathological characteristics in TSCC was analyzed. Results The positive expression rate of Merlin in TSCC and normal tongue tissues were 53.3% and 87.5%,respectively (P <0.05).There was no significant difference of Merlin expression among clinicopathological characteristics in TSCC (P > 0.05),except for the pathological grade. The Merlin expression in well differentiated TSCC was significantly higher than poorly differentiated TSCC (P < 0.05).Conclusion Merlin may play an important role in the pathogenesis of TSCC.
