Abstract:Objective To investigate the efficacy of radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) on paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) in postmenopausal women. Methods A total of 186 patients with paroxysmal AF (postmenopausal women group n =66,premenopausal women group n =30,men matched with the age group n =90) underwent RFCA guided by the CARTO 3 system were included. The difference in the outcomes and recurrence of AF among the three groups were assessed.Cox-regression was performed to identify the influencing factors of recurrence. Results After a mean follow-up of 23 months, the success rates of RFCA in postmenopausal women group, premenopausal women group and men group were 72.92%,84.62% and 76.39%,respectively,with no significant differences among them (Logrank test P =0.798).Menopause was not an influencing factor of recurrence. Conclusion The efficacy of RFCA in postmenopausal women with paroxysmal AF is similar with premenopausal women and men at the similar age.
