Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical implication of the expression of E -cadherin, MMP-2 and MMP-9 in adrenocortical tumor .Methods The expression of E-cadherin, MMP-2 and MMP9 in 10 normal adrenal tissues(NAG),40 Adrenocortical adenoma tissues (ACA) and 15 adrenocortical cancer tissues (ACC) were detected by immunohistochemistry .Results The positive rates of E -cadherin, MMP-2 and MMP-9 in adrenocortical cancer tis-sues, adrenocortical adenoma tissues and normal adrenal tissues were 20%, 52.5%, 100%,80%, 42.5%, 0% and 100%, 65%, 10%.There were significant differences among the three groups .A negative correlation was observed be-tween E-cadherin and MMP -2 expression in adrenocortical tumor ( including ACC group and ACA group , P<0.05 ) . MMP-2 was positively correlated with MMP -9.The reduced expression of E -cadherin and increased rate of MMP -2 and MMP-9 were closely associated with TNM staging and lymph metastasis of adrenocortical cancer ( P <0.05 ) . Conclusion The expression of E-cadherin, MMP-2 and MMP9 in benign and malignant adrenal tumors is different . The down-expression of E-cadherin and overexpression of MMP -2 and MMP-9 were associated with tumor formation and metastasis. This provides a theoretical basis for early diagnosis of adrenal cortical carcinoma and distant metastasis and is a potential therapeutic target for clinical study .
