Standard treatment for cough variant asthma:A clinical trail of two years follow-up

Abstract:Objective To screen the protective factors preventing cough variant asthma ( CVA) progressing into classic asthma.Methods Sixty patients with chronic cough , who were diagnosed as CVA , had participated in this study from Nov 2011 to Oct 2013.Standard ICS+LABA treatment was given to the participants and follow -up for over 2 years. Results A total of 47 participants had completed the study .Negative AHR were observed in 8 cases, while 12 cases of typical asthma had been reported , between whom a significant difference was revealed in the cough duration of CVA .Con-clusion Cough duration is a risk factor for the development of classic asthma in CVA .Early treatment with ICS+LABA may prevent the progression of CVA to classic asthma .
