Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlation between prehypertension and the accompanying blood sugar and lipid metabolism dysfunction among health check-up population in Guangzhou. Methods Using an age and gender stratified random sample method, 5 170 urban adults aged 18-70 years undergoing health examination in Guangzhou city were selected.Their body measurements and biochemical indexes were analyzed. Results The incidence of prehyperten-sion ( P-HTN ) among health check-up population in Guangzhou was 35.15%, while it was significantly higher in males (43.75%vs 23.56%, P=0.000).The incidence of prehypertension was high in participants above 25 years old (30%-40%).The mean age, FPG, TC, TG, LDL-C, UA and BMI of Group P-HTN were significantly higher, with HDL-C significantly lower than Group Normal ( P=0.000 ) .The incidence of P-HTN with abnormal glucose metabo-lism was 6.38%, while there was no significant difference between sexes ( P>0.05) .The incidence of P-HTN with ab-normal glucose metabolism was increased with the increase of age, as it was significantly higher in participants above 45 years old ( P=0.000 ) .The incidence of P-HTN with dyslipidemia was 53.82%, while it was significantly higher in males (P<0.01).It was also high in participants above 25 years old (>44%).The incidences of high TG in males and high TC in females were significantly most prominent ( 23.27% and 23.12%, respectively ) .There were significantly higher mean age, DBP, TC, TG, LDL-C and BMI, as well as lower HDL-C, observed in Group (P<0.05).Con-clusion P-HTN is closely correlated with glucose and lipid metabolism dysfunction, and the investigation on the preva-lence of P-HTN complicated with blood sugar and lipid metabolism dysfunction among health check-up population in Guangzhou is unpromising and the population is getting younger.People with abnormal glucose metabolism have more car-diovascular risk factors. The screening of P-HTN should be advocated, and those with blood sugar and lipid metabolism dysfunction should be considered as high-risk population of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
