Abstract:Objective To study the susceptibility of Acinetobacter baumannii to common disinfectants and to pro-vide more practical measures for hospital disinfection. Methods The susceptibilities of multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii to three common disinfectants in hospital were evaluated by determination of minimum bactericidal concentration ( MBC) and minimum inhibitory concentration ( MIC) .Disinfectant resistance gene qacEΔ1-sull was detected by PCR. Results The MBCs of formaldehyde disinfectant, glutaraldehyde disinfectant and 2%strengthening glutaraldehyde disin-fectant against multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii were 500, 20 000 and 2 500 mg/L, respectively, while the MICs were 250, 5 000 and 315 mg/L, respectively. The MBCs of formaldehyde disinfectant, glutaraldehyde disinfectant and 2%strengthening glutaraldehyde disinfectant against sensitive Acinetobacter baumannii and standard strains were 250, 10 000 and 1 250 mg/L, respectively, while the MICs were 125, 2 500 and 78 mg/L, respectively. The qacEΔ1-sull gene was detected in 7 multiple drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii strains, while not in 5 strains of sensitive strains of Acinetobacter baumannii and quality controls. Conclusion The MBC and the MIC of multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii to disinfectants are significantly increased.Multiple drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii resistance to disin-fectant is associated with disinfectant resistance genes qacEΔ1-sull.
