Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlations between thyroid stimulating hormone ( TSH) level and coro-nary heart disease ( CHD) events, new-atrial fibrillation ( AF) and all-cause mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) during follow-up.Methods All T2DM patients (n=1 062) were enrolled for this observational study.Participants were assigned into 4 groups according to TSH levels, Group A(0.45-1.49 mIU/L), B(1.50-2.49 mIU/L), C(2.50-3.49 mIU/L), D(3.50-4.49 mIU/L).The correlations between TSH level and CHD events, new-AF, all-cause mortality were analysed. Results The prevalence of CHD events in Group D was significant higher than in Group A and B.No significant difference was revealed in new-AF or all-cause mortality among the 4 gorups.Com-pared with Group A, the HRs were 1.15 (95%CI 0.65-2.03), 1.91(95%CI 0.98-3.74) and 2.58(95%CI 1.07-6.20) in Group B, C and D, respectively ( P value for trend=0.034) .This association was unchanged when analyzed u-sing a multivariate model (P value for trend=0.044).Conclusion TSH within reference range is linearly and positively associated with CHD events in T2DM patients, but not with new-AF or all-cause mortality.
